Why Is My Dog So Excited After She Poops?
Does your dog get “the zoomies” after relieving herself? Maybe she looks like she’s practicing a touchdown dance. Whatever the case, why does your dog get so excited after she poops? It turns out, there are many possible explanations for this funny behavior. Here are the 4 most likely reasons your dog races away from her poop as if it’s on fire.
#1 – She feels rewarded
One of the best ways to potty train a dog is to reward them for doing their business outside. Eventually they learn to eliminate outside without needing a treat or praise after every time. It’s possible they still get that feeling of remembering that they might get a treat for this behavior, so they get excited thinking they may be about to be rewarded.
#2 – It feels good
Do you see this behavior more when you let your dog out at the end of the day? You’d probably celebrate too when you finally got to poop after many hours of holding it in. Your dog may just be celebrating how much better they feel now that they’ve been able to eliminate that pressure.
#3 – To remove dingleberries
If your dog has an extra furry bum, they may be using their burst of speed to try to remove any dingleberries – and if the initial burst of speed doesn’t help, they are now being chased by their own poop. Do your dog a favor and give their butt fur a trim!
#4 – She’s marking her territory
Dogs are territorial animals. Urination and defecation are both methods of marking territories, but dogs also have scent glands on the pads of their feet, so dogs that kick up their heels after pooping are adding more of their scent to the location to announce that it’s their home territory.
